The major focus is to obtain information on the dose-response curve for ochratoxin A-induced toxic effects and the relevance of observations made in animals at high dose for human risk assessment.
After completion, an improved understanding of mechanisms resulting in DNA-damage and their contribution to tumor induction by ochratoxin A should be obtained and should serve as a basis for establishing scientifically sound maximum permitted levels for ochratoxin A within EU.
Results will be communicated to relevant authorities through scientific publications, reports, leaflets, participation of members of the consortium in evaluations.
This project will also ensure that an intensive exchange of information including dissemination of results in order to further actively contribute to the following three overall objectives of the mycotoxin-cluster is achieved:
- to apply and evaluate the HACCP approach
- to produce results to serve as a model approach for contamination prevention strategies related to natural toxins
- to produce results to serve as a model approach for contamination prevention strategies related to other undesirable substances.
